Our
Story

WashPA Outdoors was founded in 2019 to address the disconnect between our families and nature.  Founder Pam Kilgore partnered with the City of Washington and the Washington County Historical Society to create structured outdoor education programs within Washington Park that now serve six age groups during the school year, and elementary-age groups during the summer for nature-based camp.

Log Cabin

The Log Cabin is our home base for activities that take place within Washington Park.  The cabin has a fireplace but no HVAC, be sure to dress for the weather.  A public portable toilet is located approximately 50 feet away from the entrance of the cabin.  Paved parking is available next to the playground across from the cabin.

ADA considerations: uneven ground, narrow doorways, no HVAC, no interior restroom, no access to running water.

Objectives

Our goal is simple: help families get outside.  This is how we define our success.

Getting outside

We do the work, you show up!  All WPO programs are nature based, meaning you will spend time outside every time you join us.  Unless conditions are unsafe, programs are rain-or-shine so be sure to dress for the weather.

Removing barriers

We make it easy to get outside by providing age-based classes that are structured and regularly scheduled.  We have a dedicated meeting space at the Log Cabin in Washington Park, and even offer a lending closet in case the weather throws some surprises.

Creating community

We love nature and community!  Bringing families together and watching relationships bloom is the greatest reward.  All ages welcome, it's never too late to start.  Come join us!

WPO Programs are made possible with support from Washington Park, Washington County Historical Society, The City of Washington, WQED, and community donors and volunteers.
